The routing of this years #USOpen course was designed by W. Herbert Fowler in 1921, built by the club, and supervised by green committee member George C. Thomas Jr.
In 1928, Thomas designed new greens and tees, added 3 new holes and moved 3 tees. Billy Bell built it. #LACC

Location of the 1897 Los Angeles Golf Club, predecessor to the L.A. Country Club

LACC Location Story 1 – The Los Angeles Golf Club was founded in late 1897 at Pico & Alvarado streets and was the 1st golf course in the city of Los Angeles. 9 months later they merged with and founded the Los Angeles Country Club. Edward B. Tufts: the competition boss of So Cal.

In addition to his pivotal role at LA Country Club and the SCGA, Ed Tufts was also the head of the Pacific Coast Golf Association and later the California Golf Association, and that was in addition to his civic commitments. Renaissance man!
