Bob Thomas was the publisher, editor, writer, and historian, of the Southern California Golf Association’s, FORE magazine, and the SCGA‘s director of communication for over 25 years until his retirement in 2009.
Sadly, he passed away last week at only 72 years young. Rest in peace.
Bob was very kind to me in my early days of researching Rancho Golf Club, and George Von Elm, and he always had a good answer for my “green” questions, never once discouraging me.
I was very proud to have my photo taken with Bob at that inaugural SCGA Hall of Fame ceremony in 2007.

Hello. I was just doing a quick search for Robert “Bob” Thomas. He was a high school and church friend of mine. We both graduated from Redondo Union High in 1963. His daddy was Pastor Jack Thomas at the St. Andrews Presbyterian Church in Redondo for many years. The last time I spoke to Bob was on the phone at his work place in the golf reporting industry in 1999. I see in this article that he passed away. The photo of him looks like he might look after not having seen him for 50 years. Sorry for long story. I’ll appreciate any info you might have or direct me too that will tell me this is the right gentleman in this article. Thank You very much, and have a very blessed Spring of 2019!
I did not know Bob’s family, but I know he sang in the choir for 50 years, and was a Presbyterian church elder, which would suggest his father probably was Pastor Jack Thomas. This link from the SCGA is still live – http://www.scga.org/news/view/bob-thomas-remembered-for-bringing-scga-to-the-forefront – He was a great man.
