Norman MacBeth
Norman Macbeth Biography - john b jones - 2009 SCGA Hall of Fame program
I am interested in the birth, death, wife and children of Norman Macbeth. I know where he is buried alongside his wife but there is no mention of his wife or his family members anywhere. Can you help me?
Yes I can help. Please email me – email@golfhistoricalsociety.org
Hi Lois, here is what I know.
Norman Macbeth Jr., was born in Bolton, England in 1879. He emigrated to Indianapolis, Indiana in 1903.
Norman married American Lucia Holliday of Indianapolis in 1907.
#1 son was John Holliday Macbeth, who was born about 1908 and drowned in 1919 while Norman was away working for the Red Cross during WW I.
#2 son was Norman Macbeth III or Jr., like his father. Norman Jr., was also a golf champion and lived until 1989.
#3 son was Alexander born in 1915. He died in May 1920, cause unknown, but likely the Influenza pandemic.
Norman and Lucia had an uncontested divorce in 1928.
Norman married Lucille Chandler Macbeth in 1932. She had two children from her previous marriage to Raymond Stevens, Macbeth’s co-founder at Wilshire Country Club.
By the time of his death in 1940 he left Lucille, Norman Jr., a stepson and stepdaughter, as well as his two brothers and 5 sisters in England.

If you want to read about the Macbeth family, there is a published memoir on Norman’s father, also Norman: https://www.amazon.com/Norman-Macbeth-1850-1914-Head-Family/dp/1482753189/ It was a large family and many of them went on to do remarkable things! I am descended from Norman’s younger sister, Sheila.
Wonderful! Thank you! I hope to complete a proper biography in the near future. Knowing more about the family will be a big help!
